Bucharest hosts the 13th ESPERA International Conference on 15–16 October, organised by the Romanian Academy’s “Costin C. Kirițescu” National Institute for Economic Research. The event brings together researchers from different countries to discuss competitiveness and well-being amid current economic and social challenges.
Professor Víctor Raúl López Ruiz, from the University of Castilla-La Mancha, delivered a keynote lecture during the plenary session on 15 October, entitled Beyond Traditional Economic Indicators: Measuring Place-Based Subjective Well-Being.
His presentation explored how residents’ experiences can complement traditional economic indicators. Drawing on the World Happiness Report, he presented the research programme of the Observatory of Intangibles and Quality of Life and the Multidimensional Index of Social Quality of Life (MISQL).
The lecture connected this approach with global challenges, including the energy transition, digitalisation and territorial inequalities. It also highlighted the method’s application in Romania through collaboration with Professor Grigorescu, who extended the invitation, and opportunities for further comparative research across countries.
